Demand for security guards and services are increasing in the retail industry and it is essential to provide tools that allow guards to effectively manage tense situations.
With a growing presence in the retail sector, NPB Security Australia identified the opportunity to better support our clients with industry leading technology, by implementing the use of body-worn cameras (BWC) for several new shopping centre clients.
These small portable cameras record both audio and video exchanges between the public and the guard. Uploaded in real time, the BWC footage can be utilised for both investigative and legal purposes if required. Clients feel reassured that their liability can be reduced with the independent recording of an incident.
Shoplifting and theft remain one of the biggest challenges facing store owners, with subsequent loss in revenue and danger to the safety of staff causing headaches for retailers.
The presence of a guard often acts as a deterrent against crime and incorporating BWC further decreases the risk factor of crime occurrence.
“Since individuals are aware that they are being recorded, body cams help prevent aggressive behaviour in difficult circumstances,” said NPB Security’s Director David Barrett.
“The cameras capture video recordings with audio, and the footage is only accessible by our security team and the police. This implementation offers a safer work environment for employees and may also spare a company from serious harm or high expenditures,” he said.
